After School Book Club

Do you like to read and discuss books? Do you like to hear books read aloud? Do you like cookies? If so, this is the club for you!


Meets Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Books will be provided; must be a resident in 2nd grade and up. Contact the Youth Services Help Desk to register.

MLB Umpire, Pilot, and Author Dick Cavenaugh

Dick Cavenaugh was the home plate umpire for the first game of the 1984 National League playoffs between the Chicago Cubs and the San Diego Padres.  He was an airman during the Korean War.  He has dealt with many well-known people in politics, business, and movies including ElizabethTaylor, Bob Hope, and President Kennedy.  He has also traveled throughout the world.  He wrote a book about his amazing experiences titled “Just About – But Not Quite.”  Refreshments will be provided. 


This program is being presented as part of Aging Well Month, in which community organizations, agencies, and businesses partner together to create events to educate and entertain older adults, as well as keep them active.
