The Monuments Men and Women: Saving Europe’s Treasures

Come to the library at 6:30pm on Tuesday, September 23 to hear art historian Jeff Mishur of Art Excursions discuss the Monuments Men and Women.  Mishur’s slide lecture will focus on this little-known WWII Allied division of art historians, museum professionals and military personnel who worked to protect Europe’s cultural treasures and repatriate stolen objects during and after WWII.  It also will cover Germany’s cultural climate in the 1930s and 1940s to explain why the efforts of the Monuments Men and Women were so urgently needed and show some of the most significant works of art that were repatriated by the Monuments Men and Women along with some artworks never found.
