ADULT PROGRAMS All events listed here for Fall of 2010 will be held at the North Riverside Public Library, 2400 S. Des Plaines Ave, North Riverside, Illinois. Registration is requested but not required except for the computer classes. Registration and a $10 deposit is required for the computer classes which will be refunded when they are held. You may register at the Circulation Desk or call the library at (708) 447-0869 to sign up. The Wednesday Movie Matinee is drop in only and starts at 2:00 p.m.
BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS I Saturday, September 11 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Learn about the parts of a computer, their purpose, and how to use the keyboard and mouse. This is a two-part class and students must register for both parts.
CHICAGO AFTER THE CIVIL WAR Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. View a slide presentation of lithographic views of Chicago as it was in 1866-1867. You'll see the Court House where Lincoln laid in state, the Michigan Avenue Water Tower, everyday life as portrayed in the vividly detailed street scenes, and much more before Chicago was doomed to ashes in October, 1871.
BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS II Saturday, September 25 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Learn about the basics of using Microsoft Windows, the Desktop and their features. Prerequisite: Basic Computer Skills I.
INTERNET BASICS Saturday October 16 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Learn how to access the Internet for fun, information, learning, shopping, traveling, etc. Also, learn how to locate and reserve library materials through SWAN (System-Wide Automated Network). This is a two-part class and students must register for both parts. Please bring your library card along to class. Prerequisite: Ability to use the keyboard and a computer mouse.
LOOKING BACK ON "THE WHITE CITY" - ART AND ARCHITECTURE AT THE 1893 WORLD'S COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION IN CHICAGO Wednesday, October 27 at 6:30 p.m. This slide lecture focuses on the design of the fairgrounds, certain pavilions such as the Woman's Pavilion, architects Daniel Burnham and Louis Sullivan, and selected artworks that were on display. TRUE GHOST STORIES OF CHICAGOLAND Wednesday, November 17 at 6:30 p.m. Ghost hunter Richard Crowe will give a slide presentation of Chicago's most haunted locations. Learn the truth behind "Resurrection Mary," the St. Valentine's Day Massacre hauntings, the Robinson Woods Indian Burial Grounds, and much more. This Fall, we will show a movie on the first Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. The schedule is as follows:
