Friends of the Library
The purpose of the Friends of the Library is to encourage use of the library’s resources and services to their fullest extent, to stimulate public support, and to enrich the cultural life of the community.
Spring Book Sale
The Friends of the Library thank the hundreds who attended the group’s annual spring used book sale. Thanks also go to library patrons and village residents who donated books to be sold.
The annual fall used book sale will be held in October. The exact date has yet to be determined.
Donations can be dropped off at the library during regular business hours. Pickup service can be arranged by calling the library at (708) 447-0869.
Fall Book Sale
The Friends of the North Riverside Library want to thank the hundreds of people who came to their annual fall used book sale Saturday October 26 and Sunday October 27. They also are grateful to those who donated books and other materials.
Organizers also thank the volunteers who helped set up prior to the book sale, assisted on both days of the book sale and helped tear down and clean up afterwards. Volunteers include Pat Biermann, Mickie Caldbeck, Phil Cihlar, Pam De Rose, Betty Dvorak, Marion Gekas, Joanne Guastella, Freda Horozny, Nick Hoving, Shirley Hoving, Robert Lamich and Mary Lee. Also, Mary Lou Marchetti, Al Medelis, Migle Medelis, Carlene O’Brien, Carol O’Meara, Jean Schindler, Roy Sidlo, Adrienne Smith, Sharmayne Stach, Kay Subaitis, Berneice Teachmond, Louise Tompkins.
Library employees Dave Gogo, Juan Mancilla and Joe Silhavy also are commended for their assistance.
Holiday Open House
The Friends of the North Riverside Library thank those who attended the Library’s 13th annual Holiday Open House on December 7 and especially want to thank our performers, Glorious Glee, a youth ensemble primarily from Berwyn; the Mater Christi Children’s Choir; and the Riverside Brookfield High School Madrigal Singers.
Perpetual Book Sale Continues
The North Riverside Friends of the Library “perpetual” book sale continues in the library. Patrons can select used hardcover and paperback books from the Friends of the Library perpetual book sale shelves during regular library hours – 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Hardcover books cost $1.25 each; softcovers, $1.00 apiece; children’s books, 50 cents apiece; and paperbacks, 50 cents apiece. DVDs are available for $2.00 each. Videocassettes are available for 50 cents apiece; music CDs for $1.50 apiece; and books on tape, $1.50 apiece.
Celebrate Your Baby’s Birth
The North Riverside Friends of the Library will celebrate the births of babies born to North Riverside Public Library patrons by donating a board book to the library’s collection. Each book contains a book plate marking the special event. The baby’s family also will receive a letter informing them of the donation.

Become an active member by attending our monthly meetings, generally held on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 pm in the Library meeting room. All are welcome to attend – stop by and check us out.
