Registration is requested for Adult Programs.  Stop by the library to register or give us a call at (708) 447-0869.  If you need an accommodation for a disability, please contact us a week in advance of the program.

ADULT SUMMER READING PROGRAM

June 1 – August 4

 Check out what’s “Between the Covers,” this year’s theme.   Read or listen to at least four library books (including ebooks) or audiobooks (including e-audiobooks) in eight weeks to qualify for the Grand Prize of a Kobo eReader.  There will also be eight weekly drawings for gift cards from area businesses.

Sign up at the Circulation Desk to receive a reading log and free gift.  Sign up begins on June 1.  If you attend the baseball program in July and the Wednesday Movie Matinee, you may add them to your reading log and enter them in the weekly drawing.  Reading logs are due by August 4.  Snuggle up with a good book!

THE GO-GO WHITE SOX AND THE PENNANT OF 1959

Wednesday, July 18 – 6:30 p.m.

The 1959 Chicago White Sox were the South Side’s first pennant winners in 40 years, but their success played in front of a tragic backdrop: one of Chicago’s first families locked in a bitter legal battle for control of the team.  Sports historian Charles Billington delves into this history, which includes a film analysis of the 1959 World Series as well as a legal and business history of the 1950s-era baseball industry.

LAUGHTER, MEDITATION AND GRATITUDE

Wednesday, August 15 – 6:30 p.m.

 Speaker Om Johari will talk about the health, psychological and spiritual benefits of laughter, using laughter as an example of meditation.  He will discuss what meditation is, how to meditate and why people should meditate.  He will conclude by relating meditation to gratitude which can lead to being happy all the time.

 WEDNESDAY MOVIE MATINEE

Join us this Summer for a movie on the first Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m.  Drop-in only.  Refreshments will be provided.  Sponsored by the Friends of the North Riverside Library.

The classic Jerry Lewis film in which Jerry plays nerdish professor Julius Kelp who drinks a potion that temporarily turns him into the handsome but obnoxious Buddy Love.  The theatrical trailer will be shown first.
